Discovering the Joy of Learning French with Amandine

Updated: Oct 3

A Bit About Me...

I’m originally from the beautiful Loire Valley in France. I’ve always had a love for languages. After moving to the UK and working in various sectors, I started teaching French as a side hustle over 10 years ago. I never looked back.

Teaching quickly became more than just a job for me. I realised how much I enjoyed helping people find their voice in another language. Whether it’s building confidence for a trip to France, supporting someone through their A-Level exams, or helping a couple settle into their French holiday home, it’s different every time. That variety is what I love most about my work.

Why My Lessons Aren’t “Textbook French”

Let’s be honest — textbook French is rarely the kind of French you hear in real life. That’s why I don’t stick to rigid formulas or dull grammar drills. My lessons are tailored to you — your level, your goals, and how you learn best.

Sometimes that means:

  • Going for a walk and chatting about the weather in French.

  • Reading short news articles together and discussing them.

  • Playing vocabulary games.

  • Practising bite-sized grammar in a way that actually sticks.

  • Or simply building your confidence through casual conversation.

Every student is different, and that’s what makes my job so fun.

Who I Work With

My students range from complete beginners to fluent speakers who want to keep their French fresh. Some are preparing for their A-Levels, some have homes in France, and others are learning just for fun (or to keep up with their bilingual grandchildren!).

I offer:

  • 1:1 lessons in person or online.

  • Small group conversation sessions.

  • 6-week refresher courses.

  • Exam support (including A-Level prep).

  • And even translation services from English to French.

If you're not sure what’s right for you, I’m always happy to chat.

What’s Next?

In future blog posts, I’ll be sharing:

  • Interviews with students and fellow French speakers.

  • Local spots in Harrogate where you can find a taste of France.

  • Fun language tips, cultural curiosities, and everyday expressions.

  • Plus behind-the-scenes stories from my life as a French tutor.

So whether you're new here or a long-time learner — bienvenue! I’m so glad you’re here.

If you’d like to work with me or find out more, feel free to explore the website or get in touch. And if you’re already a student — merci, thank you, and see you in our next lesson!
